During opening statements in the first-degree murder case of 24 year old Amos Alaniz, Deputy District Attorney Kate Fitzgerald painted a clear picture of Alaniz firing several shots toward a vehicle 21-year-old Herminia Marquez was driving, including the one that killed her. The Greeley Tribune reports defense attorney James Hopkins, however, said 29-year-old Mary Garcia — who has already been convicted of first-degree murder in relation to the case — was the one who fired the fatal shot. Garcia was sentenced to life in prison in July for her role in the killing.
