LaSalle community mourns teacher killed in crash

LASALLE, Colo. — People from the town of LaSalle gathered at La Salle Park for a candlelight vigil to honor Christine Schwarz, a beloved seventh-grade teacher who was killed in a head-on collision with a driver fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.

The community event, held nearly two weeks after the crash on Highway 85, brought together students, fellow teachers and residents to remember a woman described by many as “a light to the world.”

“She had the biggest smile always. She was so positive,” said Jo Hutchison, a fellow teacher who had substituted for Schwarz’s classes. “She was a cheerleader, she was just a light to the world.”…
