DENVER (KDVR) — A brood of ducklings rescued by the Poudre Fire Authority in Fort Collins this week was officially adopted by the captain and engineer of the authority’s Tower 1.
The captain and engineer each took home four ducklings, according to the PFA, which said the baby ducks are “doing great” at their new homes.
Baby raccoon in Boulder brought back to life
The ducklings were rescued from a storm drain approximately 4 feet below street level early Wednesday morning, with a crew member crawling inside to remove them.
Unfortunately for the baby ducks, the mother left and did not return. Despite the firefighters reaching out to local shelters and other options, the now-abandoned brood had nowhere to go, the authority said.
The ducklings ultimately came back with the crew to Fire Station 1, where the PFA says they lived for a short time before officially being adopted.
