Members of von Trapp family, popularized in the ‘The Sound of Music,’ visit Fort Collins

They weren’t singing and dancing in the hills, but a half-dozen or so members of the famed von Trapp family were celebrating May 15 in Fort Collins, enjoying beers from the family’s Vermont brewery at Tap and Handle and posing for pictures with “The Sound of Music” fans.

The von Trapps were in town for Colorado State University’s graduation ceremonies. Stella Frame, a great-granddaughter of Maria and Georg von Trapp, is receiving a bachelor’s degree in equine science with a minor in Chinese, her mother, Kristina von Trapp Frame, told the Coloradoan.

A 1959 musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein and 1965 movie, “The Sound of Music,” starring Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Capt. Georg von Trapp, were somewhat fictionalized accounts of the von Trapp family’s story. Maria was planning to become a nun when she accepted a job teaching one of seven children of Capt. Georg von Trapp, a widowed naval commander, in Austria. She eventually began looking after the other children, too, and later married Georg von Trapp and had three children with him…
