(TMX) – Wildlife officials in Colorado confirmed recent sightings of a rare piebald elk in Estes Park.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife shared photos of the female piebald elk and her patchy white and brown coat after Estes Park residents reported sightings recently.
“This piebald female (cow) elk in Estes Park has been catching attention for a bit and for good reason,” the agency said. “This rare genetic trait occurs in about 1 out of every 100,000 elk and causes a mostly white coat of hair with some patches of brown.”
