EDITORIAL: Colorado’s sanctuary sympathizers abet crime

Colorado’s status as a sanctuary for illegal immigration has become a self-parody, but not the kind you can laugh at. It has serious implications for public safety.

Last week in Longmont, activists opposed to Washington’s crackdown on illegal immigration actually thwarted the arrest of a fugitive Salvadoran illegal immigrant accused of child rape. As reported Monday by The Gazette, vigilantes with a fringe group called Colorado Rapid Response Network tipped off Jose Reyes Leon-Deras that federal agents were closing in, according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement public statement on social media.

The federal law enforcement agency confirmed in a post on X Saturday, “During our surveillance of this Salvadoran wanted for child rape in Italy, members of Colorado Rapid Response arrived on scene and ALERTED him to law enforcement’s presence which allowed him to escape arrest.”…
