Petition seeking to make Hughes land a natural area has enough signatures to get on ballot

Voters are likely to again decide whether to force the city’s hand when it comes to the old Hughes Stadium land.

A citizen petition effort this spring to put a question on November’s ballot has been deemed successful. It was organized by Planning Action to Transform Hughes Sustainably, or PATHS, and the Friends of Hughes Stadium campaign committee.

Barring any successful protest of the petition, a question on the Nov. 4 ballot will ask whether the city should make the entire 165-acre site, formerly owned by CSU and sold to the city of Fort Collins for $12.5 million in 2023, a natural area…
