Greeley’s Downtown Armory Returns With New Vision for Community

The iconic State Armory in Downtown Greeley, Colorado, has seen many things happen within its walls over the decades. In the spring of 2025 it began its latest incarnation as a community gathering spot.

From the National Guard to a Restaurant to a New ‘Hot Spot’ For Downtown

The State Armory in Downtown Greeley was dedicated in 1922, serving as a National Guard training center for over 35 years. Then it was a church; after that, it became a well-known and loved restaurant/bar: The State Armory Bar & Grill, which closed in 2006.

In 2009, The City of Greeley Historic Preservation Commission placed The State Armory on the Greeley Historic Register.

The State Armory was known for it’s unique decorations inside, and serving up great burgers. In the 1980s, when 3.2% beer was legal for those over 18, it was a fun “3.2 bar” for the college crowd. I remember hitting the dance floor many times at “The Armory” in my youth.

In early June of 2025, began the rumblings of The Armory starting a new chapter: A place for coffee, shopping, eating and gathering…
