Legendary Location in Ault Now Home to Another Great Dive Bar
For many, many years, 218 First Street in Ault was home to the Merry Go Round; though it “sounded like” a clothing shore, it was a biker/dive bar. The location is just west of where Highway 85 and Highway 14 intersect, bringing all sorts of travelers to the area.
218 First Street was erected in 1904, not long after the town was renamed to be Ault in 1897, after starting out as High Land.
218 First Street in Ault, dating back to 1904, has held a bar of some fashion for decades: From Merry Go Round, to The Pour House, to now Ugly Pony. It’s fun to think of what the address might hold in 100 years from now. Will it still be a bar?
Ugly Pony opened in 2023 and quickly became popular; Ault doesn’t have many places to go for a drink. Then, they added a great food menu, and more and more people were attracted to ‘The Pony.’
What Food Network Show Will Feature Ugly Pony in Ault, Colorado?
In July of 2025, I saw that Ugly Pony began updating their menu options “in advance of a television feature..” So, I reached out about it. Turns out, the Food Network show, “The Best Of,” was slated to come by. The show is young, with only one full season under its belt as of summer of 2025…
