Marching through Longmont on Saturday was a celebration of all that Boulder County has to offer as community members paraded through downtown Longmont for a tradition that has spanned more than 150 years, according to the Kiwanis Club of Longmont, a group that organizes the parade each year.
The Boulder County Fair Parade brought tractors, classic cars, dancers, musicians, plenty of spectators and many furry friends to Main Street for the annual event. Held every summer, the parade is the official start to the Boulder County Fair, which rolls into town on Wednesday through Aug. 10 at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont.
This year, Longmont Sister Cities student ambassadors were able to experience a new cultural activity by marching in the parade that began and ended at Roosevelt Park, while marching through the streets of downtown in between.
Sota Ogiwara, a 15-year-old resident of Japan, said his home city of Chino holds an annual festival called Chino Donban that is similar to the Longmont fair parade. However, the Longmont event involved more cars than Chino Donban does, he said…
