Tragic Incident at Horsetooth Reservoir Over the Weekend
Areas of Horsetooth Reservoir are closed to the public today (September 8th, 2025) due to a tragic weekend incident.
On Sunday, September 7th, Larimer County officialsreceived a report concerning a person who went missing in Horsetooth Reservoir, near Satanka Cove.

Missing Paddleboarder Prompts Large Search and Rescue Effort
The sheriff’s department confirmed that the missing individual was a paddleboarder and they were not wearing a flotation device at the time of the incident.
Teams from Larimer County Parks, Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, Colorado Parks and Wildlife units and the Larimer County Dive Rescue all arrived on the scene to assist in the search and rescue.
Search Efforts Include Drones, Boats, and Sonar
