18-Year-Old Man Charged with August Murder of Damien Montoya in Greeley

18-year-old Logan Dewane-McDowell was arrested on September 19 and charged in the murder and robbery of 18-year-old Damien Montoya that occurred on August 14. Dewane-McDowell is currently being held in the Weld County Jail and is set to appear virtually at the Weld County Courthouse on Tuesday morning.

On the evening of August 14 about 8 p.m., Greeley Police Department officers responded to a call in Centennial Park after a shooting was reported. Officers found Montoya, who had a gunshot wound, and he was transported to the Northern Colorado Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses reported a fight occurred between people in a red truck and people in a gray sedan before the shooting. Following the shooting, the suspect fled in the gray sedan.

The suspect in the shooting was not immediately identified by witnesses or police. He was described as a Caucasian male with curly blond hair. Dewane-McDowell has been arrested and charged with the crime, but the Greeley Police Department clarified in its announcement of the arrest that “all arrested individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.” No additional information has been shared by the police at this time…
