Fifty-five years ago, on April 1, 1970, a small team of volunteers delivered warm meals and even warmer compassion to 24 residents of Greeley. It marked the beginning of a local movement—one plate at a time—that has since nourished thousands across Greeley and outlying Weld County. Today, Meals on Wheels of Greeley and Weld County proudly celebrates its 55th anniversary, honoring its legacy while inviting the community to shape the next chapter.
Founded under the visionary leadership of Mary Margaret Cox, who served nearly 48 years as the nonprofit’s executive director, the organization has grown from serving a few dozen to delivering hundreds of meals daily, thanks to the help of dedicated volunteers. Now under the leadership of Michelle Dwyer, Meals on Wheels of Greeley and Weld County continues to serve older adults and those unable to prepare meals for themselves with a mission grounded in nutrition, social connection and compassionate care.
“For 55 years, Meals on Wheels of Greeley and Weld County has been powered by kindness—by volunteers, donors and neighbors who believe in caring for one another,” says Michelle Dwyer, executive director. “Our story isn’t over; it’s just growing stronger. We invite everyone to help us deliver the next chapter together.”…
