The Weld County Board of Commissioners has recognized October 19–25, 2025, as National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. The proclamation supports the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment’s (WCDPHE) Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. This program is one of four in Colorado. Program coordinator Cassie Tyson said Weld County is committed to children’s environmental health.
The commissioners stated that about 25% of homes in Weld County built before 1978 may have lead-based paint or other lead hazards. Lead exposure can harm children’s development and nervous systems.
