Larimer County Health Officials Urge Residents to Take Preventive Steps Against Fall and Winter Respiratory Viruses

The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) is advising residents to take steps to protect themselves from respiratory viruses as fall and winter approach. The department recommends vaccinations against influenza (flu), COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for those who are eligible. These viruses can lead to serious illness and hospitalizations.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, there were 215 hospitalizations for viral respiratory diseases in Colorado in October 2025. Most of these cases were due to COVID-19. Health officials are monitoring trends in other countries to help prepare for the local season. For example, Japan had an early and severe flu season, and Australia reported a high number of flu cases.

Vaccination is a main recommendation. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are advised for everyone six months and older. A statewide order allows Coloradans to get updated COVID-19 vaccines at pharmacies without a prescription.
