Mead Police Chief Addresses Social Media Rumors, Updates Residents on Department Operations and Transparency

On October 28, 2025, Chief Brent Newbanks of the Mead Police Department released a public statement about recent misinformation on social media regarding the department’s operations. He asked residents to separate facts from opinions online and stated that the department aims to be transparent and maintain public trust.

Chief Newbanks said the Mead Police Department operates with professionalism and accountability. He shared arrest data, reporting an average of eight arrests per month. In August 2025, there were 12 arrests, most of which required transport to Weld or Larimer County jails. In September, there were nine arrests, with a similar process for detainees.

He addressed rumors about holding facilities. Chief Newbanks said the department has not asked Weld County to reopen the Southwest Substation for holding suspects. All arrestees not released with a summons are taken to the appropriate county jail.
