Weld County Approves $9.4 Million Plan to Replace Bridge Near Eaton

The Weld County Board of Commissioners has approved a plan to replace Bridge 33/68A. The bridge is at the intersection of Weld County Road 33 and Colorado Highway 392, southwest of Eaton. On Monday, the board agreed to work with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) through an intergovernmental agreement. The county will allocate $9.4 million to the project. CDOT will manage right-of-way agreements, utility relocations, a crossing agreement with New Cache La Poudre Irrigating Company, and the design and construction of the new bridge.

Bridge 33/68A was built in 1971. CDOT has classified it as structurally deficient. Officials state that the bridge is currently safe, but further deterioration could lead to closures. About 5% of Weld County’s bridges are structurally deficient, compared to the national average of 6.8%, according to a 2025 report from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Construction on the new bridge will not begin for several years. CDOT must first complete design work and utility relocation.
