The Fort Collins-Loveland Water District recently completed a land transfer to the Weld RE-9 School District for a 145-acre site west of Pierce that could accommodate a new school.
The school district has no current plans to put a school on the site, Superintendent Andy Lavier told the Coloradoan on Oct. 29, but could do so in the future to accommodate growth in the area.
The Fort Collins-Loveland Water District purchased the property Feb. 23, 2024, to obtain water rights for its growing customer base after learning that the family operating the historic Alkire Farm was looking to sell the property, general manager Chris Pletcher told the Coloradoan. The water district, which cannot legally profit from sale of the land, transferred it to the Weld RE-9 School District on June 24, 2025, for the same $924,000 price it paid to purchase it 16 months earlier, according to Weld County property records…
