A tragic crash early Saturday morning claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman on northbound Interstate 25 near Mead, Colorado, as reported by the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
The collision occurred around 5:34 a.m. near mile marker 243, roughly two miles south of Mead in Weld County.
How the Accident Happened
According to investigators, a Honda Accord traveling north entered the acceleration lane from Colorado 66 onto I-25. The 64-year-old male driver attempted to avoid a crashed vehicle already on the roadway.
In the process, he swerved across the fog line onto the right shoulder, striking the woman who had stopped to check on another driver involved in the earlier incident.
Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Authorities confirmed that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact. The Honda driver was uninjured, according to state patrol officials. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the woman could not be revived.
