The Weld County Board of Commissioners started November by honoring adoptive families and county employees who advocate for placing children and youth in permanent, safe homes, in recognition of Adoption Month and Adoption Day.
“The primary goal of foster care is to reunify children and youth with their parents, but when reunification isn’t possible, the secondary goal is to secure a permanent home through adoption or other long-term arrangement,” Jamie Ulrich, Weld County Department of Human Services Director, said in a Nov.4 press release. “In Weld County, many of those children are adopted by relatives, close family, friends, or their foster parents.”
Adoption Month is nationally recognized on November 22 to raise awareness about adoption and support the families providing permanent homes for children and youth, according to officials.
