Colorado is full of interesting pieces of art, without question. There are those trolls, there is that very large woman made of metal, and much more. Loveland first installed their interesting ‘Equinox’ sculpture in September of 2014 along Highway 34; in 2023, it found a new home along northbound I-25 near the Embassy Suites.
Loveland loves sculptures, there’s no denying it. Seems everywhere you go in town, you come across some sculpture. You may not know, but the reason Loveland became such a sculpture-laden city, is because the foundries to produce sculptures were here and it just became easier for artists to move to where the foundries are. More artists, more sculptures.
“Equinox” draws a lot of attention; why wouldn’t it? Three giant, blue horses can cause a stir. It sits large and in charge way up there off the ground; and most times, you’re driving past at speeds over 75 miles an hour, making it tough to get a bead on the intricacies of Equinox.
When “Equinox” was first installed, back in 2014, I enlisted the help of a coworker at the time to create a video explaining the piece. I put together the copy, and she filmed it, breaking another coworker’s toy horses in the process. Whoops…
