Prescribed Burn Planned Near Beaver Meadows: Temporary Highway 36 Closure May Affect Local Residents Wednesday

Rocky Mountain National Park plans to conduct a prescribed burn on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, if weather and environmental conditions allow. Fire managers may burn up to 294 acres west of the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, near Upper Beaver Meadows Road. The goal is to reduce the risk of wildland fires by removing grasses and small shrubs that can fuel fires. This is intended to help protect nearby communities and park infrastructure.

For public safety, U.S. Highway 36 within the park will be closed from Deer Ridge Junction to Bear Lake Road Junction between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the burn. The Beaver Meadows Entrance and Bear Lake Road will stay open. Visitors going to Many Parks Curve should use the Fall River Entrance via U.S. Highway 34.

The prescribed burn is part of the park’s ongoing fire management efforts. Previous burns and fuel treatments have helped limit the spread of wildfires in the past, including during the East Troublesome Fire in 2020 and the Fern Lake Fire in 2012.
