Driver arrested after evading authorities, speeding 133 mph on Highway 34

DENVER (KDVR) — Police arrested a 21-year-old who was behind the wheel of a Camaro on Tuesday night after reports of the vehicle evading authorities and speeding.

The Greeley Police Department was notified by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at about 10:20 p.m. on Nov. 18 about a Camaro that hadn’t yielded to deputies at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Highway 34.

Soon after, a mobile radar technician detected the Camaro traveling at 133 mph in the 5000 block of Highway 34. The technician positively identified the vehicle and passed the information on to deputies and officers.

Greeley officers initially lost sight of the vehicle, but Weld County deputies located the car in Loveland at about 4 a.m. on Nov. 19. The Camaro was found to be driven by Vicente Pena, who was arrested and booked into the Weld County Jail.

The Greeley Police Department said that Pena is facing multiple charges, including felony vehicular eluding, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device and misdemeanor speeding, although he was allegedly driving at over 40 mph over the speed limit…
