Colorado is known for having many, many ranches; one in Loveland specializes in breeding miniature and midsize Highland, HighPark and Jersey cattle as well as miniature donkeys. With their success, comes the public’s opportunity for cow snuggles and adorableness.
It’s a great story about a family simply looking to start a little ranch, and that little ranch getting a little bigger by adding more animals. A few years later, they would be breeders of these cute animals, and would let the public stop in to enjoy them. The ranch is named two of their dogs: Lucky and Blu: The Lucky Blu Ranch.
Lucky Blu’s motto is: ‘Mini Ranch, Big Heart.’ “Mini” referring to the mini Highlands. They also now have mini Jersey cattle and mini donkeys, as well as pigs and a lot of chickens. They do sell pork products (bacon) and the two brothers of the family do sell eggs that the 70 chickens produce to fund their baseball endeavors.
The ranch is located along Highway 34, not far from Sweet Heart Winery. For $8 or $9 (depending upon the season,) the public can come out and pet, brush and take pictures with the Highlands from outside of the pens. You can also arrange a private visit, where you get Highlands and their shop to yourselves…
