While Downtown Loveland continues to strive in improving things, and enticing folks to come Downtown, sometimes it’s just not enough. That would seem to be the case with one of the two Metrolux Theatres in Colorado. It’s hard to believe that Loveland is the sole city to have had Metrolux theaters; by 2026 we’ll be down to just one.
The Metrolux Dine-In Theatre opened in the summer of 2019 in The Foundry. I, for one, was very excited to have a movie theater in Downtown. This one also had a bar to relax and dine in before your movie, and they’d bring you food/drink to your seat. It was a big deal for Loveland, for sure. About a year later, things went horrible, with the COVID-19 pandemic shutting things down; things like movie theaters.
Things never really got back to normal for the Metrolux in Downtown after the pandemic; fewer movie-goers, higher prices for everything; and streaming services really hampered the theater being successful. In late 2020, the theater was listed for sale at $6.3 million; in 2024 Metrolux filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. It was in 2025 that restaurant operations of the theater were slashed; things seemed dire for the theater…
