Critical Incident Response Team Investigates Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting by Greeley Officer in Traffic Stop

On Wednesday, November 26, an officer-involved fatal shooting occurred in Greeley. A Greeley police officer initiated a traffic stop near 21st Avenue and 16th Street and there were two people in the vehicle. The adult female driver exited the vehicle and the adult male stayed in the vehicle.

The officer told the adult male passenger that he had a felony warrant for his arrest and asked the suspect to exit the vehicle. The male did not comply with the officer’s orders. According to a press release, the man reached toward a bag on his lap while the officer continued to give commands to the occupant. The officer fired his gun and struck the man. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the man was pronounced dead at the North Colorado Medical Center.

The name of the deceased male has not yet been released, but officials say that it will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office after the man’s next of kin is notified. The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will conduct an investigation, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings…
