Flower Power: Ten Fun Facts About Poinsettias

Poinsettias, with their bright red leaves and star-like shape, are a staple in Christmas decorating, and also the subject of much study at Colorado State University.

Students in CSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences’ Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture have a chance to apply classroom knowledge at the Horticulture Center greenhouse. This year, over 1,200 poinsettia plants were grown by upper-level students in the floriculture practicum class. Those plants will be on sale in shades of pink, red and white during CSU’s Poinsettia Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. Prices are $15 for six-inch pots and $20 for eight-inch pots. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
