Longmont climbing gym reopens after storm damage, thanks to community support

LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — A Longmont climbing gym reopened Saturday, just over a week after severe winds tore apart its roof and forced the business to shut down.

The roof of Climbing Collective was ripped open during a wind storm the week ahead of Christmas, leaving the roof twisted, and hanging off the side of the building.

CEO and co-founder Bryan Hylenski said the financial impact was immediate and overwhelming. He explained that the gym’s insurance deductible for wind and hail damage is extremely high.

“That means the entire repair needs to be covered by us. Not to mention the lost revenue from the week we were shut down,” said Hylenski.

Despite the setback, Hylenski said help poured in quickly. Contractors worked to remove and rebuild the roof, while friends, neighboring businesses and community members volunteered their time to clean up insulation and debris…
