Xcel Energy could shut off power this week due to fire danger in northern Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) — Xcel Energy, the major electricity provider across Colorado, said it is considering shutting off power again this week as wind and dry conditions make for high fire risk in northern Colorado.

The company announced Wednesday that it is monitoring conditions and preparing to activate enhanced powerline safety settings and possibly a Public Safety Power Shutoff for areas in Larimer and Weld Counties on Friday.

“Ongoing dry conditions in the region coupled with high winds may create the potential for a critical wildfire weather environment,” the company said in a press release.

If power is shut off, Xcel said it would likely impact limited areas including parts of Fort Collins and communities to the north and west starting at 7 a.m. Friday…
