Loveland no longer has plans for a long-term overnight shelter

LOVELAND, Colo. — The City of Loveland no longer has any plans for a long-term overnight shelter after March, the city announced on Monday.

This comes after a Loveland City Council meeting earlier this month when the council voted to approve the first reading of a change to municipal code that would allow enforcement of camping bans, even if no shelter is available. That change still needs to go through a second and final reading before approval.

In that same meeting, the council also moved to consider a conditional purchase of a building, located at 599 71st Street in northwest Loveland. The hope was that the building would eventually become a resource center and overnight shelter, but the purchase would only proceed if city council approved the purchase and the city secured a qualified operator, the city said…
