Ted Turner’s reserve healed a landscape. See the story in ‘Preserved’

It’s easy to get lost in the sheer size and beauty of Ted Turner’s sprawling Vermejo nature reserve that straddles the Colorado-New Mexico border, but the story of conservation and commerce coexisting is one the documentary “Preserved” hopes to bring to light.

When Turner bought this 558,000-acre property, largely in New Mexico, in 1996 it was mined, overgrazed and ecologically neglected. Now it’s home to a living laboratory, a mix of abundant native wildlife and plants, hunting and logging from its shortgrass prairie to 13,000-foot peaks.

After two previous sold-out screenings in January, the public gets another panoramic view of Turner’s conservation creation as “Preserved” returns to The Lyric, 1209 N. College Ave, with screenings at 8:15 p.m. Feb. 6 and 3:45 p.m. Feb. 7 and Feb. 8…
