Members of the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 7 union last week voted overwhelmingly to authorize a worker strike at the JBS USA meat packing facility in Greeley, Colo., over unfair labor practices.
UFCW Local 7, the largest private-sector union in Colorado and Wyoming, represents around 3,800 workers at the JBS plant in Greeley, where the company also has its headquarters. JBS is the largest beef producer in the U.S. and the second-largest pork and poultry producer.
According to UFCW Local 7, 99% of workers at the beef processing facility voted in favor of calling a strike over what they say is “the company’s ongoing illegal conduct at the bargaining table and inside the plant.” The union claims JBS is violating federal labor laws and preventing workers from “securing a fair contract…
