Colorado Horse Rescue Offers Compassionate Endings Program to Provide Financial Support for At-Home Euthanasia

[Longmont, Colorado] – February 4, 2026 – Colorado Horse Rescue (CHR) has launched Compassionate Endings, a new program designed to ensure horses receive kindness and peace in their final moments, regardless of an owner’s financial circumstances.

“Saying goodbye to a horse is one of the most difficult decisions an owner can face,” said Katherine Gregory, Chief Executive Officer of Colorado Horse Rescue. “Horses are deeply sensitive animals and transporting them or placing them in unfamiliar environments at the end of life can cause unnecessary stress. Compassionate Endings prioritizes at-home euthanasia, allowing horses to pass peacefully in a familiar setting,” Gregory added.

When cost is a barrier, CHR can help by:

  • Covering humane euthanasia performed by a licensed veterinarian
  • Paying for body retrieval through a professional transportation service
  • Providing referrals to trusted veterinary partners, if needed

Compassionate Endings is not limited to horses adopted through CHR. The program is available to any horse in need, regardless of age, breed, background, or adoption history.
