Solar power storage grid project planned near Fort Lupton

A cooperative effort between Xcel Energy and a California-based clean energy manufacturer hopes to capture southern Weld County’s sun and store it for later use.

Clearway’s Energy Group has begun building a $261 million Clearway Spindle Energy Center storage grid in Weld County near Fort Lupton and Frederick, according to a news release on February 5.

“Spindle represents a significant investment in Weld County’s energy future, delivering reliable storage and economic benefits to the region,” said John Woody, Chief Development Officer. “We are deeply grateful to our partners for their collaboration and look forward to continuing our work with the local community, our customers, and lenders.”
