New bill could force Colorado university to take down its newly installed billboards

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A new Colorado bill could force Colorado State University to remove its newly installed electronic billboards, after neighbors complained they violate Fort Collins’ long-standing ban on new billboards.

Senate Bill 26-038, introduced by Democratic State Sen. Cathy Kipp, would require the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System to follow local sign and noise ordinances when a sign or sound is visible or audible off campus. CSU is currently exempt because it sits on state land.

Fort Collins has prohibited new billboards for decades. CSU recently installed several large digital billboards on and around campus, drawing some backlash from nearby residents…
