Weld County DA finds Severance police sergeant justified in shooting suspect

DENVER (KDVR) — Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke has determined that a sergeant with the Severance Police Department was justified when he shot a suspect during an incident in December.

Rourke, who issued his decision in a letter and report to Severance Police Chief Ken Chavez on Monday, Feb. 9, found the sergeant was justified in discharging his firearm at the suspect during the incident, the district attorney’s office said Wednesday.

The decision came after the result of an investigation by the 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team was provided to the district attorney’s office, the district attorney’s office said.
