Longmont says construction is expected to begin March 11 at the 3rd Avenue/Atwood Street railroad crossing, with lane closures and a temporary shutdown of through traffic planned as part of the city’s railroad quiet zone safety improvements project.
In a March 4 notice, the city said the work follows delays and a winter shutdown and is anticipated to be completed in June. The city described the work as part of the first set of crossings slated for safety improvements under the Railroad Quiet Zones Safety Improvements project.
For about 12 weeks, the city said drivers should expect single-lane closures on 3rd Avenue near the Atwood Street intersection, while keeping at least one lane open in each direction. The city said northbound and southbound Atwood Street lanes will be closed at the intersection just north of 3rd Avenue, and that residents on Atwood between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue will use designated detour routes…
