Loveland Mural Where Tom Davis Saloon Is

Being that Loveland is one Colorado city that is very into its arts scene, the thought of having to take down a great mural must have been hard to take. Today many people enjoy cocktails and live music on the spot, which does bring in tax dollars for Loveland.

Who Created the 3-D Mural That Was in Downtown Loveland, Colorado?

It was in 2021, that I wrote about how Sheldon James’ 3-D mural, “Elemental Discovery” would be coming down. The mural took up the near entire north exterior wall It must have taken James several months to create that mural that was removed as they began turning the building into Cleveland Station (at Cleveland Avenue and 5th Street) in 2019.

Technically, the mural that stood from 2009 until 2021 was a piece of trompe l’oeil art: trompe l’oeil is French for “deceive the eye.’ It really made you “feel” like you could walk into the scene, when actually you’d just be walking into the wall.

According to the Reporter-Herald, as the mural was in place for its full 10-year commitment, the city didn’t have a problem with it having to come down for Cleveland Station.

Today, you’ll find that Tom Davis Saloon and another storefront are where “Elemental Discovery” once stood. Tom Davis Saloon is a fun honky-tonk, without question: Beers, specialty cocktails, live music, and more…
