Northern Colorado Regional Airport exits remote control tower project

After more than a decade of working toward and waiting for a virtual air traffic control tower to get off the ground, the Northern Colorado Regional Airport is officially getting off that ride.

And now Airport Director John Kinney is optimistic that FNL — as it’s often referred to by its airport code — will get traction on funding for a $19 million “sticks and bricks” air traffic control tower, saying the FAA views FNL as a priority airport.

“The remote tower program has concluded its life cycle at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport,” Kinney told the Coloradoan. “We told (the FAA) at this time that we’d like to go with the proven quantity of a proven sticks and bricks control tower.”…
