Frozen Dead Guy Days returns to Estes Park with coffin races, new drone show

ESTES PARK, Colo. — One of Colorado’s most unusual traditions returns this weekend as the Frozen Dead Guy Days festival kicks off in Estes Park, celebrating a man cryogenically frozen after his death in 1989.

The annual festival, which runs through Sunday, honors the preserved body known as “Grandpa,” also called Grandpa Bredo, who is now more than 120 years old.

For years, Grandpa Bredo was kept in a Tuff Shed in the hills above Nederland, about 40 miles south of Estes Park. Today, he is still frozen in a state of suspended animation…
