I-25 express lanes between Berthoud and Fort Collins to start tolling April 7

If you’ve been enjoying the ability to cruise the I-25 express lanes between Berthoud and Fort Collins for free, a warning: fees begin this month.

Starting Tuesday, April 7, tolling will begin on the 14-mile stretch of express lanes that was under construction this winter. Enforcement for drivers who cross solid lines to enter or exit the express lanes illegally is also slated to begin this spring.

What’s changing and when?

  • Tolls begin: April 7
  • Weaving warnings begin: April 7 (30-day grace period)
  • Fines for weaving begin: May 7

Once the enforcement period starts, drivers will only be allowed to enter and exit express lanes at designated dashed-line zones.

Drivers caught weaving over solid lines on and after May 7 will face $75 fines, increasing to $150 if unpaid after 20 days. Enforcement is handled through roadside cameras and sensors that automatically detect when a vehicle crosses a solid line…
