Family seeks justice after suspect is charged in fatal hit-and-run crash after 4 years

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — For more than four years, Myrna Mendoza and her family have had to heal from the death of Luis “Darnell” Loma. In one day, all their wounds were reopened.

“Well, I honestly never thought they were going to arrest anyone,” Mendoza said. “I’m happy and sad just because it brings back old memories and the hurt comes back. All the emotions come back and I’m reliving the whole situation again.”

Mendoza said Loma was her first-born. She said after he was hit and killed while riding his bike October 6, 2021, she wasn’t sure how she would continue living life…
