Despite experiencing the driest winter on record with USDA’s SNOTEL, Estes Park is not facing the immediate water supply shortages seen in Front Range communities announcing mandatory watering restrictions. Estes Park Utilities Director Reuben Bergsten assures, “The Town of Estes Park has a diverse and robust water portfolio, and our supply is secure.”
While our supply is secure—thanks to strategic master planning and diverse sources like the Western Slope Colorado-Big Thompson Project reservoirs which are above average for the year—the dry conditions elevate awareness of the fire danger. This situation reminds us that responsible water management is paramount. Our focus remains on long-term water security, honoring the Town’s mission to be good stewards of our natural setting through strategic planning and capital projects to replace old, leaky pipes and increase looping in our system.
