Nanny Charged With DUI After Wrong-Way Driving in Boca

Nikki Todd-Smith, 28, was pulled over just after midnight on July 3 when an officer spotted her white Chevrolet heading north in the southbound lanes near Palmetto Park Road, according to a Boca Raton Police probable cause affidavit obtained and reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com. The officer reported smelling alcohol coming from Todd-Smith and noticed her eyes were bloodshot and watery. Todd-Smith initially denied drinking, then admitted to having “one or two drinks,” police said.

Todd-Smith agreed to perform field sobriety exercises, but according to the police report, she struggled through nearly all of them — swaying and raising her arms for balance during the one-leg stand, stepping off the line during the walk-and-turn, and failing to touch her finger to her nose. Police say she also showed nystagmus, an involuntary eye-jerking often linked to impairment, while trying to follow a pen with her eyes.

Todd-Smith was arrested and asked to submit to a breath test, but refused — twice — even after being warned that refusing would suspend her driver’s license for a year.
