Prosecutors say Yusuf dispensed oxycodone 30mg — the drug’s maximum strength, typically reserved for cancer patients or people with traumatic injuries — to nearly all of her customers. She charged roughly 10 times the normal price and demanded cash. Trial evidence showed customers drove long distances to fill prescriptions no other pharmacy would touch, some paying as much as $1,300 a month. Investigators say some of those customers were drug dealers picking up pills for dozens of people who weren’t even there. Witnesses testified Yusuf kept her pharmacy doors locked during business hours, letting employees open up only for approved customers.
U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida said Yusuf did not merely overlook red flags — prosecutors say she built her business around them, even after employees and the DEA warned her about what she was doing.
The jury convicted Yusuf of conspiracy to illegally distribute drugs along with five counts of illegal distribution. She faces up to 20 years in prison on each count, with sentencing set for October 14. A co-defendant, Saman Gimenez, has already pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge and is scheduled to be sentenced in October as well…
