The old Hollywood Bread Building sat empty for more than a decade near Young Circle before developers tore it down and replaced it with something considerably taller: a 25-story apartment tower with 362 units, a rooftop pool, and thousands of square feet of retail space at street level.
BTI Partners has topped off construction on the project, called The Bread Building, at 1740 South Young Circle in downtown Hollywood, according to BTI Partners. As reported by Connect CRE, BTI Partners acquired and demolished the aging building before replacing it with the new residential tower. The developer and its partner, Bridge Investment Group, paid $11 million for the property in June 2021, per Multi-Housing News.
From Vacant Bakery to High-Rise
The tower replaces the former 11-story Hollywood Bread Building, which ceased operations in the 1990s, the same Multi-Housing News report notes. Rather than erase that history entirely, BTI Partners saved the original building’s iconic sign for reuse in the new development, according to the outlet. The project will bring 362 luxury apartments and roughly 16,000 square feet of retail space to the site, according to Florida YIMBY, though the Miami Herald has described the redevelopment as slated for 361 luxury rental units rather than 362. Project materials from Stantec have also referred to the tower as 26 stories, a figure that differs from BTI Partners’ own description of a 25-story building.
To get the project built, BTI Partners and Bridge Investment Group secured $83 million in construction financing from Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in August 2022, per the same account from Multi-Housing News. That financing enabled construction to move forward on the site. A listing on corporatehousing.com later described the finished community as built in 2025 with 362 units across 26 stories.
Amenities and Unit Mix
Residents will have access to a rooftop deck featuring a pool, a jacuzzi and cabanas, along with a fitness center, a business center and co-working spaces overlooking ArtsPark, according to Connect CRE. The building itself offers studio through two-bedroom residences, according to the property’s own website, which also describes more than 15,000 square feet of amenity spaces throughout the community.
Part of a Larger Building Boom
The Bread Building isn’t an isolated project. BTI Partners has said the tower, together with its planned B57 North and South developments, will add more than 1,000 residences to downtown Hollywood once all three are complete, according to Florida YIMBY. Multi-Housing News reports that B57 North and South are expected to rise 35 stories each with a combined 856 residential units, and that the Bread Building and B57 projects together represent more than $500 million in total investment in the Young Circle area. Separately, BTI Partners has also outlined a second nearby project that would replace a strip mall with twin modern towers featuring residential, retail, restaurant, office and skywalk components, according to Multifamily Executive, which similarly pegged the combined investment at more than $500 million…
