Pickup Truck Plows Into NW Miami-Dade Kwik Stop, Woman Hit by Flying Poker Machine

A pickup truck tore through the front of a Kwik Stop convenience store in unincorporated Pinewood on Tuesday night, hospitalizing a 45-year-old woman after a video poker machine struck her inside the building. At least five people were inside the store at the intersection of Northwest 111th Street and Seventh Avenue when the truck barreled through the entrance, scattering merchandise and shelves across the floor.

The driver told investigators the vehicle flipped up when he tried to back up, and he confirmed the truck was in drive rather than reverse at the moment of impact, according to WSVN. He said he was alone in the truck at the time. The business owner said the truck went all the way inside the store, and the outlet reports the crash damaged bottles, merchandise, and shelving throughout the location.

A customer named Joseph, who was inside with his wife and two cousins when the truck crashed through, said he heard a boom and saw smoke right after impact. He then found his wife on the floor screaming for help. Joseph said her injuries are not life-threatening, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics transported her to a hospital. He said he planned to go be with her there.
