Florida Woman Gives Birth in Lyft Ride Under Busy Interstate: ‘It’s a Healthy Baby Girl’

First responders brought the mother and the newborn to Jackson North Medical Center and both were reportedly doing well

Rush hour was apparently too slow for one baby girl.

The backseat of a Lyft ride-share vehicle became a delivery room during the evening commute on Wednesday as a woman gave birth underneath a Florida highway, WSVN reported.

North Miami police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to Northwest 135th Street in North Miami, below an Interstate 95 overpass around 5 p.m. after receiving a report for a woman in labor, officials said.

According to the WSVN, the unnamed mother began going into labor at her home and called for a Lyft ride to get to the hospital.

“She just said, ‘Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!’” the driver told the news station.

Amidst the pains of labor, the woman called a cousin, Cherley Zamor, who quickly got into her own car to follow behind the ride-share SUV, Zamor told the station.

“She was screaming ’cause, I guess, the baby was coming,” Zamor said.
