Broward Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Bicycle Crash in Pompano Beach

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is conducting a full investigation into a crash that resulted in the death of a bicyclist in Pompano Beach, as detailed in a report by the office this week.

The incident transpired on Jan. 14, 2024, at around 6:38 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Copans Road, a police report said. Leslie Beck, a 66-year-old male from Pompano Beach, was fatally struck while riding his bicycle.

According to the preliminary investigation, Simpson Fraide, 36, was driving a 2012 Honda Accord eastbound on West Copans Road near Blount Road when the accident happened. Beck was crossing West Copans Road from north to south, approximately 100 feet west of the nearest marked crosswalk, when he was hit by Fraide’s vehicle.

At the same time, Leslie Beck was on a bicycle traveling from north to south across West Copans Road, approximately 100 feet west of the intersection and closest marked crosswalk. – Broward Sheriff’s Office

Fraide told investigators that he did not see Beck attempting to cross the road and only became aware of the collision upon hearing the impact. He immediately stopped his vehicle and contacted local authorities.
