New changes coming to Florida driver’s licenses

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida drivers will soon see changes when they first obtain, replace or renew their driver’s license or identification cards beginning July 31.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, a new law will require the numbers on the licenses to include at least four randomly generated numbers.

The random numbers will help protect Floridans’ identities and help improve security.

Once the number is issued, it will only change if the customer’s last name changes.

“Absolutely yeah I don’t see anything wrong with it I don’t see how it would bother anybody if it’s for security purposes you know, so I’m all in for it,” a Florida driver told NBC affiliate WBBH.

FLHSMV said despite the number change, the format of the license will remain the same.

“Yeah, I’ve known people that have had their identity stolen, credit cards stuff like that but license? Not so much,” the driver added.
